Make sure that you write all of your ideas down, and if possible, try to sketch out a rough sample of your uniform. Submit your design to the company that you hired to produce your uniforms. Most custom uniform companies are more than willing to give you advice about your uniform. It is in their best interest to make you a happy, and repeat, customer.

Before starting the manufacturing process, your design needs to be checked for copyright violations. A reputable custom uniform company will not violate any intellectual property laws -- so don't even think of adding copyrighted elements to your design. Once your design is determined to be copyright free, the real process can begin.

There are a range of processes that can be used create a custom uniform. Common processes are: screen printing, dye sublimation and digital printing.

  • Screen printing your custom uniform is a great idea for larger orders. The process requires additional time for setup, but for a vibrant design or for printing on a dark background, you can't do better.
  • Dye Sublimation Printing is great for creating breathable jerseys, but because of the way designs are printed, only light colored backgrounds can be used and the color white can not be printed.
  • Digital printing offers the ability to create a logo on your uniform from a variety of image sources. This type of printing is quick and does not require extensive time for set up. You can be sure to have the exact logo you designed on your uniform.

The time and cost required for each one of these methods can vary considerably. If you are under time or budgetary restraints, you may want to get suggestions from the company which ones to choose.

Many customers want to see a sample of their uniform before multiples are printed. It adds time to your order, but may be worth it to allow you to fix any errors before making your complete print run. Generally a custom order can take between 2-4 weeks to get to you.
