3 Off-Season Soccer Training Techniques
During the off season, you might worry about getting out of practice with your soccer skills. What can you do to avoid losing your skills, athleticism and fitness while you're not playing soccer with your regular team? Whether you want to train alone or you're looking for some ways to maintain that soccer camaraderie with other players, there are a few different things that you can do to stay fighting fit. Taking your training indoors is an easy way to train, and there are plenty of ways to run drills and practice techniques on your own. Here are some of the ways you can make the most of your off-season training.
Sign Up for Indoor Soccer or Futsal
If it's too cold, wet or windy to train outdoors, it doesn't mean that you can't train at all. It doesn't even mean that you can't play on a team. If you miss the fun, friendship and teamwork that you can enjoy when playing as a team, why not consider signing up for an indoor soccer or futsal team during the off season? It might not be exactly the same as being out on the field, but it's a great way to keep up your fitness. The smaller teams can be fun to play in, with 5 to 6 members per team. As well as maintaining the skills that you need during soccer season, you could pick up some new ones too. These new skills could help you when soccer season is back again.

Do Drills at Home
Footwork is one of the things that players can find tough to keep up when they're not regularly training and playing soccer. If you want to avoid losing the muscle memory of carrying out clever footwork, you should look at some dribbling and juggling drills that you can do. These are excellent for maintaining your fitness and skills at home, which is just what you need when you're not playing with your team and are largely working out indoors. Of course, they will also be useful later in the year, when it's time to get back to playing outdoor soccer. There are plenty of drills to do at home, even in just a small space. With three cones spaced two feet apart, you're forced to dribble through a tight space.
Practice Rebounding with a Wall
Lastly, using a wall, you can practice rebounding during the winter. This will help you with goalie handwork but can also give you excellent footwork practice too. Many of the drills that you might practice with other people are just as easy to do on your own if you have a wall that you can use. If you want to make it even more challenging, you might use a rebounder to give the ball extra bounce and power. You can practice moving in different ways to get and keep control of the wall, whether it requires some smart footwork, jumping or quick hand action.
Don't let your skills slip away during the off season. Make the most of your time before the soccer season starts again!
